The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.

        The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is an interesting story to read; it has a good theme and the main character is a guy who knows how to catch the attention of the audience thanks to his peculiarity in telling the story. He is Arnold Spirit Junior, a 14 years old Native American Indian who lives in The Spokane Reservation. At the beginning, he studies at Wellpinit High School, but when Mr. P pushes him to look for hopes, Arnold is transferred to a better and prestigious school called Reardan where the students are white and rich. Arnolds best friend is Rowdy, a tough guy who takes care of Arnold since the beginning, he loves Arnold’s cartoons, since they make him feel so happy. Rowdy has some family problems because his parents are always drunk and his father has abusive behaviour towards him which can be the cause of Rowdy’s bad and violent behaviour. He finds difficult to express his emotions, that’s the reason why he feels abandoned when Arnold decided to leave the reservation, causing the decision to stop being his friend. Arnold lives with his parents and his sister. The whole family had dreams, his father wanted to be a famous Jazz sax player, his mother wanted to be a teacher and his sister, Mary, wanted to be a writer, but she kept it in secret. Nobody could achieve their dreams because of the poverty that was surrounded them, furthermore, they never had someone who motivated them to achieve their dreams, they never had hopes. However, that could be a good reason for them to agree with Arnold and help him to look for his own hopes. When Arnold studied in the Rez, he didn’t have a good social life because everybody used to discriminate him by calling him “retarded”. He was beated at least once a week, but everything changes when he goes to Reardan, there, he finds good people who accept him as his is and help him to be better and to discover the talents he has. He gets a beautiful and intelligent girlfriend, Penelope, and good friends who show him that there are still good people in the world. Arnold’s favourite hobby is to draw cartoons, this helps him to express himself in a better way, due to his difficulties in expressing orally for his stuttering, he found the perfect way in which he can say whatever he wants, and in fact, he is good at it. When studying in Reardan School, Arnold discover he is a good basketball player thanks to the encourage he receives from his classmates and teachers. Definitely, Arnold plays a great role in the whole story to motivate all those people who had lost their own hopes.
